The U.S. Chess League Semi-Finals: And Then There Were Two
Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 10:16PM This week saw the U.S. Chess League semi-finals come and go, and the result is that Miami will face New York in the finals. New York, which has three teams in the USCL (New York, Queens, and New Jersey while Indiana has none), defeated New Jersey 2.5-1.5 while Miami beat San Francisco by the same score. The date for the final hasn't yet been set (at least not on the USCL site), but to whet your appetite here's a funny and impressive game from the Miami-San Francisco semi-final.

Fun it is! However, I'm pretty sure white score well in the timid 2...Nc6 KGD, and it's only White's choice of 3.Nc3 exf4 4.d4 (what was that?), that got him in trouble. Am I mistaken?

PS. Not that I want to dispute the choice of an IM, but hey, the King's Gambit almost wins by force, doesn't it, so he must've gone awry somewhere ;-)
the New Jersey team is comprised of players all of whom actually live in New Jersey and has been for a few years, so I think it's a bit unfair to them to call it a New York team.
3 Nf3 and white is already winning. Well, maybe not. It would be the best move in my book. As you mentioned, gambits are about development so me must be playing some homegrown version. Perhaps it could use some fertilizer.
