This Week's ChessVideos Show: Alekhine-van Mindeno, Part 1
Friday, December 18, 2009 at 9:39PM Analyzing complicated games and positions isn't just good for you, it's fun! So for this week's show, I took a position from a famous simul game between Alekhine and van Mindeno, where Black was supposed to have a defense to Alekhine's rapidly developing kingside attack, and spent about half an hour analyzing it on spec.
Did I get it right? See for yourself - or rather, try to determine that for yourself! Flipping on the engine would give you a quick answer, but it would be pretty pointless. So join in the challenge, and see what you can find on your own, and work out any errors that I might have made. Next week, I'll present the finished product: what happened in the game, what the best defense was, and what I got wrong. For now, though, let's keep it on the level of purely human efforts!
The show can be seen here, free of charge and available on-demand for the next month or so.

At one point later in the video when the white rook was on h4 there looked to be a winning line with the rook sacrifice Rh8+, Kxh8, Qh4+, Kg8, Nxg5.
It doesn't win, but it is an improvement.
