World Team Championship: Results
Friday, January 8, 2010 at 4:59PM Now let's get everything caught up to date. I alluded to some of the round 2 results a couple of days ago, but without fully presenting them. Let's fix that, along with providing the results from rounds 3 and 4.
Round 2:
Armenia 2½ - Israel 1½
Brazil 2½ - Egypt 1½
Greece 2½ - Russia 1½
United States 3 - India 1
Azerbaijan 3 - Turkey 1
Round 3:
Turkey ½ - Armenia 3½
India 2½ - Azerbaijan 1½ (A big upset, with Gashimov and Guseinov both losing.)
Russia 3 - United States 1 (Greece > U.S.?)
Egypt 2½ - Greece 1½ (Egypt > Russia??)
Israel 2½ - Brazil 1½
Round 4:
Armenia 2½ - Brazil 1½
Greece 1½ - Israel 2½
United States 3 - Egypt 1
Azerbaijan 1½ - Russia 2½ (Gashimov lost again, in a fantastic game to Grischuk.)
Turkey 1 - India 3
There are no undefeated teams at this point, but there are five(!) with only one loss: Armenia, the U.S., Russia, Israel and India. More info and all the games are here; as for Gashimov-Grischuk, I hope to present it soon.

I know it was in jest, but your "logic" from round 3 (Greece > U.S. and Egypt > Russia) fell apart today when the USA won against Egypt. Maybe it rather indicates that both Greece and Russia are more motivated against stronger teams and/or can underestimate supposedly weak ones? And of course Russia cannot "afford" another surprise if they still want to win the tournament.
BTW, for whom will you keep your fingers crossed on Monday (USA-Greece)? This may be an unfair question - possibly you do not want to answer, or you do not even know your personal answer ... .
I have sympathy for the Greek team, both because of my ancestry and because they're underdogs, and it was fun to go over the top when they beat Russia, especially in light of what Golubev wrote in Chess Today. But I'm rooting for the U.S.
