Former world champion Anatoly Karpov is playing a match against Chinese prodigy Hou Yifan. It's good experience for her, and after all the bloodbaths Karpov has suffered the last few years it's nice to see him off to a respectable start (up 1.5-.5). It's probably too much to expect that he'll start working on his game with some seriousness and give players like Korchnoi and Smyslov a run for their money in terms of maintaining greatness into his 60s, but hope springs eternal.

As for the Spice Cup, it finished, and the A group was won by Alexander Onischuk, while the B group was won by Anatoly Bykhovsky and Gergely Antal. No norms were achieved there. Incidentally, as before, the official site doesn't seem helpful, so check out the TWIC page instead.
