Watching Live Commentary: Step-by-Step Directions

A couple of people have written to ask how to watch my live commentary for the US Championship, and I've had inquiries in the past as well. So here are what I hope will be clear and simple directions.

First, you'll either need to be a Premium Member (PM) (more on that here, at the bottom of the page especially) or buy "ducats" (that can be done here; you can also look up "Ducats" in the help menu when you're logged on to the Playchess server). I know that in the past there has sometimes been a delay from the time when one buys ducats to when they show up and can be used, so while I hope that has been taken care of since the last report, it's possible that such an inconvenience may arise, unfortunately.

Second, assuming you're a PM or have some ducats at the ready, the next step is to log onto Playchess.

Third: Look in the Rooms pane and find "Broadcasts". That's where you want to go - click on it once, and you'll be there.

Fourth: There's another pane - probably in the upper left corner - which gives you the tabbed options Info, Players, Games, World. Choose Games. I'm naming my shows US Championship - Round (N) Live Commentary. Scroll down as necessary to find it, and then double-click on it.

Fifth: If you're a PM, that should be the end of it. If you're on the ducats plan, you'll be prompted sooner or later to pay to keep watching. From here the procedure should be self-explanatory, a matter of responding appropriately to the system's prompts.

I hope that helps. Remember, my commentary starts an hour and a half into the round and goes for about two hours (with about a ten-minute break midway through) or a bit more, depending on how dramatic the goings-on are by that point. So that's from 4:30 p.m. to about 6:30 p.m. ET (= 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. St. Louis time or 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. CET).

See you there!
