If At First You Don't Succeed...
Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 10:56AM Do you have a rival at the chess club who just keeps beating you? Here's a (non-chess) story that may hearten you. Of course, I hope that your success occurs more quickly than hers does, but if not, you can think of it as giving new meaning to the term "960 chess".

Even though she finally passed her test, I would still be a little concerned about having her on the roads. If she can only drive well enough to pass her test once out of 960 tries, she is extremely likely to get into an accident. Unless she suddenly got better from her 959th try, she's going to be a scary driver!
[DM: Read the article - that issue is addressed! (Though you might be right in any case.)]
I guess I didn't read far enough into the article. However, even though she mainly failed the written test, a driving instructor did suggest that she should probably not use her license and actually drive. So from this I assume she probably isn't all that great of a driver, even though that wasn't her main obstacle in getting her license.
I think I would be more concerned about a commercial airline pilot in the same situation.
I'm glad people are getting the intended message from the story...
One person who may get, but sadly can't act on the intended message is Alexi Shirov. Kasparov is now in virtual retirement from chess, and well beyond any fires the former may look to set on the board...
