Korchnoi at Amber
Monday, March 21, 2011 at 2:34PM It's a rest day at the Amber Tournament, but at least there's a new video for us, featuring Viktor Korchnoi.

How can one not like this video!
I don't know if it was the production or if it was because I've never seen a video of Korchnoi where is was this jovial, but viewing this video made me very happy. I have always enjoyed going over his games and have rooted for him since I first became a fan of chess. He has a reputation of being a grumpy gus but who wouldn't be grumpy and paranoid if they experienced the same punishment that the Soviets imposed on him.
I also think that someone should make a movie about Viktor Korchnoi's life and cast Robert Deniro to play the title roll.
[DM: Korchnoi always seems grumpy in the post-game situation, but videos like this are another story. I have the two-disc series from ChessBase (get it!) where he presents highlights from his career, and he perpetually displays a mischievously avuncular personality.]
Wow. A very cool video from Korchnoi. I think people will watch this testimony for generations to come. He was so animated and energetic.
It is nice that Ol' Korchy stayed healthy enough in his advanced years to watch all the Amber tournaments.
You're welcome. ;)
Also, we posted two of the daily diaries after round 8: Nakamura and Aronian. So, lots to watch before Tuesday.
Cheers,
Macauley
you didn't post the Aronian vid either on his win over Vishy :)
@ Macauley: I already posted the Nakamura video - yesterday, in the preceding post.
@ Daniel: Despite the current ordering, the Aronian video wasn't there when I posted this one. I'll post it now, though!

The TV show "the Master Game" was produced by the BBC in the 70s to early 80s. It was such a thrill to see the GMs in action, "thinking aloud" , and I tuned in religiously. It's nice to see these episodes again.
