The Week in Chess

Dennis Monokroussos in The Week in Chess

If you know about my site, chances are pretty good you already know about The Week in Chess. I've mentioned and linked to the site pretty regularly over the years, but I thought it would be a good moment to give them an outright plug. It's the granddaddy of all the chess news sites on the web, with live coverage of all the major events (and often of comparatively minor ones too), links, crosstables, occasional annotated games, and perhaps above all the resource that gives the page its name: the free weekly magazine.

The magazine comes out every Monday night/early Tuesday morning CET, and for more than 16 years (yikes! Time flies) Mark Crowther has been compiling all the chess news and games from the previous week, available to any and all to download for free. Even if you're only a casual chess fan, it's worth checking it out and using. (Even if you don't have a program like ChessBase, there are free database programs online you can use instead; not as powerful, but far better than nothing!) If there is a worldwide chess hall of fame someday, Crowther will get in for starting TWIC and keeping it going all these years. Thanks, Mark!
