Notre Dame 29 - Pitt 26 (3 OT)
Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 8:07PM
What did I tell you! If the Notre Dame football team was a cat, it would have spent at least three of its nine lives surviving that game. Down 14 at the start of the fourth quarter and regularly shooting itself in the foot in that quarter and in overtime too, it put together enough good offense while holding very firm on defense to escape with a victory. If that doesn't teach them not to be overconfident, I have no idea what will!
So that's nine victims down, three to go, not counting the bowl game. Next week's victim: Boston College.
Time for a tune, and a bonus video besides.

Well called! But what's that unfamiliar game where people have weird things on their feet and go rather fast?
I was watching on TV in real time when the 1980 comeback occurred. Down in the third period, a loss could even mean no medal at all. The rush was incredible when Verchota equalized---cheering everywhere. I'm talking about the final game against Finland.
What's this three OTs? I thought it was one OT and sudden death after the first score.
[DM: Nope. In college football each team gets a turn in overtime, starting from the other team's 25 yard line. If it's tied after the first OT, they do it all over again, again starting from the other team's 25.This goes on indefinitely, until the tie is resolved; the only thing ever changing is that as of the third overtime a team is obliged to go for a two-point conversion after a touchdown. (Though not in the ND game, because Pitt scored a field goal on their half of the OT. Once ND scored their touchdown in response, there was no need to bother with the conversion.)]
After a shot in the foot, a shot in the knee, not glad is me. But the Irish go rolling along.
