That's the name of an interesting character who lived from 1847 to 1914. He was a pioneer of photography, an inventor, an essayist on political philosophy and, most importantly for us, a chess player and organizer. He's a pretty obscure figure, but as he was apparently the co-founder of the British Chess Association and the British Chess Club, maybe he shouldn't be. The limited evidence suggests he was a decent amateur, as this game and this one will attest.

So thanks to "guitarcameron" for passing the name of Wordsworth Donisthorpe our way. Readers, do you have any gems from obscure players worth noting?
