As in game 1, Yasser Seirawan did most of the pressing but couldn't turn his edge into a full point. Anatoly Karpov hasn't kept up with theory in ages, so his openings, especially with Black, are built on solidity. He generally winds up worse with Black, as he did today, but as long as he's still in the game he can count on his skill to give him a good chance to work his way out of his problems. Today, he managed, and the match is tied 1-1 after the classical portion.

Tomorrow, they'll play a pair of rapid games, and then on Wednesday they'll finish things off with ten blitz games.
