This Week's ChessVideos Show: Viewer Games & Questions
Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10:20AM Having finished the Ruy series, it was time to catch back up on viewer games and questions, and so I did in a monster video going nearly 100 minutes. Openings featured include the Closed Sicilian, the King's Indian Attack, the Winawer and the Tarrasch Defense; there are a couple of endgame questions too, and finally a question about dealing with losses.
And by "finally", I mean "finally" - this is my last ChessVideos show, at least under the current format. If it continues, it will be on a "credits" basis, where viewers pay some token sum to watch. So if you'd like the show to go on, let me know here, or in the comments space below the video, and hopefully the show will go on!

For me it depends on the amount. If it's cheap enough I would probably buy most videos. If it's not cheap enough for me to buy them on a regular basis, I would still buy a few that I pick and choose, watching the videos that sound the most interesting to me.
If you continue, would there be some subscription service where while you are paying this fee you can watch all the archived videos and new videos for "free"? It would be nice to have an option to commit to a certain length of time and get a rate that would be cheaper than all of the videos bought by themselves at the ppv cost.
I really hope the series continues! It's been a big help to me!
Why not make it into a DVD?
These shows are great!
[DM: That would be an interesting possibility, but I'm not sure who has the rights to the old shows. Meanwhile, going forward...?]
I'm a big fan of your videos, and am definitely prepared to pay something to keep watching them. But could you please give us some idea of what kind of pricing system you have in mind? I think it may be difficult for many viewers to tell you if they would continue watching or not without knowing those details first. Thanks.
Forward! I'd love to keep these shows. In the time of the Chessbase shows I'd frequently use the credits to buy the old shows. I think I was pretty close to watching them all and co-incidentally made a nice rating leap. ;-)
The main problems for me though are the availability and easy of getting to it. E.g. for Chessvideos you need to be online and logged in instead if it being delivered to my door so to speak. Chessbase, Openings for Amateurs, to name a few, all the same problem. A DVD would be great I think, but perhaps even better a Chessvibes openings style but using video for delivery, a format I think many people prefer. In fact I think we should create it :-)
[DM: That's a very interesting idea!]
Go for it: I'm happy to contribute!

it surprises me you can't get a show on chess.fm. Your stuff is orders of magnitude better than heisman.
[DM: I was one of the originals on chess.fm! Then they had their "coup d'etat", ousting Tony Rook and killing all the shows for a while, and I went over to ChessBase. I don't know at this stage if they'd bring me back, but it would be ironic.]
you might consider premium content something like with the world championship.
good videos, great pgns. I know you've modified your shows to your audience comfort zones over the years but I miss the hard and deep analysis of the old days.
maybe thats why i get a perverse pleasure out of your ruy series.
Hi Dennis, first of all thanks big time, for all the great work you have done for free distribution (in chessvideos.tv) all these years. I also agree with the people that yours is a much better work than many, many others doing DVDs for CB and other places. I also agree that if the prices are reasonable, I´d pay for them as well, but a few suggestions.
I never quite entirely liked the “chaotic” topics of chess video sites: some you care about, many u don’t, and the way those pages are set, you have to pay a subscription fee even if you are interested only about a few. Moreover, if one wants more of something in particular, you are lucky if you get it at all, never mind from the author you like. So I guess for you and for everyone that likes your work, it will definitely be more attractive, if you´d sell something of an “Opening repertoire” sets of videos (all the more with Novelties), same for the middle game, and same for the endgame, where of course the “repertoire” doesn’t apply”, but the “course system” does. This way, one could aspire to fill quite some holes in our chess education, by buying those packs. On top of that, you could also charge a small subscription fee for some periodical updates, games of the opening repertoire with more Novelties, middle game interesting themes, and new and relevant to some topic endgames, or also with exercises (as Chess evolution week newsletter does). If that sounds too much, you can always get some chess titled partner, and all in all create some interesting proposal worthy of paying for.
Best regards and keep up the great work!
To date, the "great games in chess history" from chess.fm is my favourite chess show... thats saying a lot because I follow all the guys on youtube and many of the chessbase ones. I made a copy of them and review them every 2 years or so.
The history, the back story, the personalities, the context, the game its self, the analysis... amazing combo, it was the perfect show.
