2016 World Championship To Be Held in the U.S.?
Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 8:28PM
So said Kirsan Ilyumzhinov at the closing ceremony of the just-finished world championship match. (See from 1:21:15 to 1:21:19.) That will be nice for for Americans - especially if Hikaru Nakamura is playing (or Fabiano Caruana...but see the next post), but when it comes to FIDE I'll believe it when I see it.

From an international point of view, one might prefer a proper global bidding procedure - like this time, but rumors about a WCh match in New York were just rumors.
To me it is also a bit reminiscent of the previous Grand Prix Series with one of the events supposedly to be held in Berlin. At the Tromso Olympiad, Andrew Paulson told German federation president (now also FIDE vice president) Herbert Bastian that Berlin was just a placeholder "because FIDE wanted advance planning" and there were never any real plans to make it happen there. (Info from Bastian himself, explicitly citable, I already used it elsewhere)
