This Week's World Chess Column: On the Dilemma of the Horns

In this week's column I look at a pawn structure that "hit the big time" thanks to the great Akiba Rubinstein, and trace a little of its evolution to the present day.

Great Column Dennis. Having been an admirer of Rubinstein it was nice to see him get some thoughtful recognition. He contributed a lot to chess theory not just a few opening variations. I do believe during his peak period (roughly 1910-1920) he could have won a championship if given the chance. He had plus scores against Capablanca, Lasker and Alekhine during that period. Certainly World War 1 came at the worst time for his career.
As a d4 and c4 player, I found lots to ponder. To know you can give your opponent the bishop pair and be saddled with doubled pawns and actual have an advantage makes chess the wonderfully rich game that it is.
