Completed Events

One is completed and the other is sort-of completed. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov drew the last game of his match with Markus Ragger to clinch the victory by a 3.5-2.5 margin. The match wasn't as close as the score suggests: Mamedyarov led 2.5-.5 and could have been up 4-1 had he not been attracted to a completely unnecessary (and bad) sacrificial idea in game 5. Even in the last game he was better right out of the opening with Black, but made a draw to finish off the match.

The sort-of completed event is the Chinese League, which isn't over but won't resume until the end of October and doesn't finish until December 11. Hopefully that will be in time for Ding Liren to cash in his rating points and qualify for next year's Grand Chess Tour - he has picked up 11.5 points from this past week's Chinese League games alone to reach #7 in the world on the Live list.
