The eighth season of the Thoresen Chess Engines Competition has been underway for well over a month, and right now it's at the midway point of stage 2, a double round-robin between the eight engines that survived stage 1. If this season will follow the pattern of its most recent predecessors, stage 3 will see the top four finishers from this stage, and then Komodo and Stockfish will play for the championship.

That last bit was slightly tongue in cheek, but there's no reason so far to think that won't happen. They have been the finalists in the last three or four TCEC events, and they both won their respective sections in stage 1: Komodo with an undefeated 9-2 score, and Stockfish with a crushing 11-0. Right now, at the halfway point of stage 2, they're tied for first with 8.5/11, both undefeated and a point and a half ahead of Houdini and two and a half points ahead of Gull.
