The Computers Are Go-ing Places
Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 2:56AM
Fans of Go have bragged for some time that although human players have lost the fight to computers (decisively so), computer programs have yet to beat the best in their game. Sorry, Go players, but your day has come as well.
Next stop, world domination.

I like Go, but this is amusing after all the snooty comments for years from Go players about how the game is too deep and subtle for computers to master, as contrasted to the 'shallow, all tactical' game of Chess. Here's the truth - Go is just as much (or as little) 'all tactics' as Chess. And the reason that computer domination is a latecomer to Go is because there hasn't been the money in developing strong Go engines. Welcome to the Future, Go fans.
Fan hui (defeated player) is ranked 2 Dan pro. Top players are 9 Dan so still a bit to "go". Still a truly amazing achievement by the google team and it surely must just be a matter of time
