Ah, chess politics: almost as delightful as "real" politics. The conventional wisdom at present is that the 2018 FIDE Presidential election will pit Kirsan Ilyumzhinov against Georgi Makropoulos. (Is it possible to offer negative three cheers?) Anyway, with a hat tip to Chess Today, here are three articles of general interest on the FIDE election, which will take place with the Olympiad much later this year:

1. From October, some first thoughts on Ilyumzhinov vs. Makropoulos.
2. More on the matter, from November.
3. An interesting recent proposal on changing the voting system for that election.
