After three rounds in Danzhou, the Chinese troika (to offer a sort of mixed national metaphor) of Wei Yi, Yu Yangyi, and Wang Hao shared the lead at +1. They all drew their next two games, and are now tied for 2nd-4th, having been leapfrogged by Hungarian GM Richard Rapport. Rapport defeated Bassen Amin in round 4 and Ernesto Inarkiev in round 5, and now leads with 3.5/5. There are only eight players in the event, so only two rounds remain.
In Leon, an interesting four player rapid knockout event is underway. On Friday, Vassily Ivanchuk defeated Indian prodigy Nihal Sarin 2.5-1.5, winning the third game. Match #2 is on Saturday, between Parham Maghsoodloo and Jaime Santos Latasa. The winner will face Ivanchuk in the final.
