At first things went pretty well for Parham Maghsoodloo. After five games the match was tied, and the youngster was consistently getting good positions against Magnus Carlsen. Unfortunately for him, and for anyone who hoped for a competitive match, a combination of unforced errors and poor clock management did him in, and Carlsen reeled off eleven in a row on the way to a very comfortable victory.

The first round of the Chess.com Speed Chess Championship continues on Wednesday, when Alireza Firouzja faces off against Vladimir Fedoseev.
