I may go back and highlight some of the "greatest hits" from the ongoing 2021 U.S. Championship (I have recorded a couple of shows for ChessLecture.com on games from this event, so I've been paying some attention), but for now let's get caught up on the standings. For much of the event, the top seeds have had a bumpy ride - Fabiano Caruana was at -1 after 6 of the 11 rounds! - but now, with two rounds to go, the top three seeds are very much in contention for first place.

Wesley So has been his usual solid self, and with an undefeated +2 score is tied for the lead with Sam Sevian (definitely a surprise) and the also undefeated - and even more surprising - Aleks Lenderman. With wins in rounds 7 and 9 Caruana has crept to within half a point of the lead, tied with the undefeated Leinier Dominguez and Ray Robson.

The two remaining 2700 players (in addition to So, Caruana, and Dominguez), Sam Shankland and Jeffery Xiong, are a further point back, tied with -1 scores with Daniel Naroditsky. Finally, another half point, is the fourth trio - every score-group has three inhabitants right now: Dariusz Swiercz, Lazaro Bruzon, and John Burke.

Here are the pairings for the last two rounds:
