It's not as important as the pending World Chess Championship, but the 2021 European Team Championship swamps that forthcoming event when it comes to the quantity of elite-level play we can watch. Superstars like Firouzja (currently #4 in the world, ahead of Nepomniachtchi), Giri, Mamedyarov, Grischuk, Vachier-Lagrave, Radjabov, Duda are all playing - and that's just the players in the world's top 14. Other 2700s are also playing, not to mention dozens of more "ordinary" grandmasters.
