Notre Dame fans have a dream too, and while we're not yet in the promised land, we may have taken an important step in the right direction. Hopefully we won't have to wander another 19 years! Of course, firing Charlie Weis isn't enough by itself, any more than it was when "we" fired Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham. There are some good candidates out there, so there's at least reason for hope.
As for Weis, he's in good shape, financially and vocationally. Thanks to the highly premature contract extension he was given in his first season, he'll get $18 million on his way out the door, and if he wants to work there are already six NFL teams that have expressed an interest in hiring Weis as offensive coordinator (a job for which he does seem well-suited).

Congratulations Dennis. It must be nice. I'm still stuck in the quagmire that Rich Rodriguez has spawned here in Ann Arbor, & if our AD keeps waiting around we'll probably lose another coach who should be here (maybe even to ND). It would be nice to have a coach at Michigan who gets the Notre Dame & Ohio State rivalry's (but this guy hasn't got a clue).
It is sad when it seems as though all of the top NFL skill players these days are coming out of SEC schools (or UCLA), and all of the top recruits are going to those same schools. There was a time when Michigan and Notre Dame had a lock on those players, but now if kids want to play in the NFL, they barely give our schools a glance (that may be an exaggeration, but you get the point).
Boy I long for those fall days when a top-5 Notre Dame team faced a top-5 Michigan team. Good luck on your coaching search, hopefully they can bring some respectability back to South Bend. (I'm not holding my breath in Ann Arbor).
