Women's World Championship: Round 2, Day 2
I'll get to the London tournament later (great first round!), but first, some quick highlights from the end of the non-tiebreak portion of round two of the Women's World Championship.
The two main favorites, Humpy Koneru and Hou Yifan consolidated yesterday's wins with draws today, and so advanced to round 3. The third seed, Tatiana Kosintseva, failed to avenge her loss against Yelena Dembo, and so she has been eliminated. Another prominent player to bite the dust, though only a slim favorite by rating, is former world champ Maia Chiburdanidze, who lost to Xue Zhao. A second mild upset saw American Anna Zatonskih win her second game against Marie Sebag.
Tomorrow's tiebreakers will see lots of favorites in action, including defending champ Alexandra Kosteniuk, ex-champ Antoaneta Stefanova, Kateryna Lahno, Viktorija Cmilyte and Nana Dagnidze.
