During Anand-Hammer the computer spat out 49.Kc6 as an improvement. You might want to take a look at that. It looks like Black ends up in zugzwang, but I'm not sure.
In the game Carlsen-Hammer: I am confused by the annotation after move 39. Rd2??... [39.Bd2 Kf7!= (39...Rhxd2? 40.Rxd2 Rxd2 41.Rxe8+ Kf7 42.Rb8+- ) ] How is white to take with a rook at move 40., when the remaining rook is on b8? According to the position, Whites bishop covers d2.
I think you've gotten yourself lost in the parenthesis. You need to keep track: the 39...Rhxd2? line is a variation within a variation. It's not the main line. So: what you're looking at is 39.Bd2 Rhxd2 etc. - the white bishop is gone (and so isn't covering d2 anymore), but the rook on d3 is still alive.
Note, by the way, that you can click on any spot in the game score *or* the annotations, and it will appear on the board.

[DM: You're 100% right - very nice!]
No relay error! Quite extraordinary, but it's rapid after all. ChessBase has videos from Europe Echecs and Hammer is speaking of the blunder.

Thanks so much for clarifying this. Always the patient teacher...
