Paris Grand Chess Tour Starts Today (Wednesday)
Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 1:43AM
That's a little more than six hours from now, as of this writing - at 8 a.m. ET, 2 p.m. local time in Paris. The format is the same as in Leuven, and the cast of characters is mostly the same as well. As usual, there are nine full-time participants in each year's Grand Chess Tour, with one wildcard per tournament. In Leuven that was Anish Giri; this time it's Vladimir Kramnik (a Paris resident for years now, thanks to his wife).
Day 1 begins the rapid competition, and there will be three rounds. Here are the pairings for round 1:
- So (2783) - Caruana (2790)
- Karjakin (2785) - Vachier-Lagrave (2794)
- Aronian (2789) - Grischuk (2789)
- Kramnik (2787) - Nakamura (2803)
- Mamedyarov (2788) - Anand (2775)
Predictions? It's very unlikely that I'll do worse than last time, so here goes: MVL.
