Andrey Kochemasov Wins the 30th World Correspondence Championship
Congratulations to Andrey Leonidovich Kochemasov, who won one game while all the other games in the event were drawn. Ok, I'm kidding: there were nine decisive games out of the 136 that were played, and he won two, count 'em, two games to finish with 9/16. Six players finished half a point behind him, and another five players finished a further half a point behind, with an even score. All 12 of them were undefeated, so you can tell that the event was a real barn-burner.
If you're interested in seeing the paint dry with your own eyes, go here, read issue 1326, and download the PGN or CBV file to have a look. (Cheap jokes aside, it is worth having a look at the games to see where their openings intersect with your own. If correspondence chess is good for anything, from a non-participant's perspective, it's very good for stupendously deep opening prep.)
