Cheating vs. Anand in a Charity Simul
Monday, June 14, 2021 at 4:25PM
What is most shocking about this story is that it's likely to give billionaires, hitherto known and beloved as paragons of virtue, a bad name. Facetiousness aside, how especially awful is it to cheat in an event for charity, against one of your personal heroes, a player (Viswanathan Anand) who is universally respected for his sportsmanship?

I was curious why only 1 of several cheaters had been called out. Looks like that's changing: https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/nzvtkr/three_out_of_five_celebrities_who_played_in_the/
[DM: "Alleged" cheaters, from a legal perspective, but yes, it certainly looks like it (to put it mildly). Maybe they'll donate some more money to whatever the cause was to ease their consciences and to start repairing their reputations.]
As the Dutch saying goes: a storm in a glass of water.
[DM: Like a tempest in a teapot? Apparently such expressions go back to at least the first century. If that's the sense of the expression, sure - but we all spend some time in that glass of water, and would like to keep it as pure and calm as possible.]
