No "Home Field" Advantage in Chess?
Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 11:11PM
That's apparently the claim of a recent paper (linked here), at least at the level of playing in one's home country. Worse, it may even be detrimental. I haven't played in rated events outside of the U.S., but my experience of playing in, say, cross-country events (playing on the east coast when I've lived on the west coast or vice-versa) does not square with the idea that "away" is better; my results in events in my state of residence or an adjacent state is FAR better than my performance in more distant states.
Your experiences, readers?
