Tonight's Show
Monday, January 31, 2005 at 5:55PM
Tonight's game (click here for more details) is a brouhaha between two old-timers, Henry Bird (after whom Bird's Opening (1.f4) and Bird's Defense in the Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4) is named) and Bernhard Horwitz. At the time this game was played in 1851, Horwitz was definitely the better player, but Bird's attack finally prevailed when Horwitz rejected a draw in the hope of cashing in his material advantage. It's not a well-played game, but it is exciting and worth an hour of your time if you're a chess fan!

Dennis,
Site much improved since last night! Now you have an operational link, but you have to learn how to hide it behind a word or phrase -- otherwise it looks amateurish. Try to figure it out for yourself. Hint: examine carefully the icons on the Post screen.
Done. Actually, while working on some other links last night I figured it out - by accident - but hadn't thought to go back and correct this one. Thanks for the quality control tip!
